I see high powered cars all the time loose to lower powered cars cause they cannot get the power to the ground. 1 big reason autos are preferred in drag racing. Easier to get hooked up than clutch. Most of the other cars in the SCC challenge were running autocross (Hoosier/Kumho) or drag racing (Nitto) tires.
